London Ensemble: a Superstar with no names

This is one of those editions that say little about themselves. The German Metronome LP, reference 200.199, prints no year and names not a single performer: all twelve tracks are credited alike to "The London Ensemble", with no singers, musicians or production listed. [1]

The content is a selection from the rock opera: "Overture", "Heaven on Their Minds", "What's the Buzz", "Pilate's Dream", "Everything's Alright", "Damned for All Time", "King Herod's Song", "I Don't Know How to Love Him", "Blood Money", "The Last Supper", "The Arrest" and "Superstar". [1]

External dating and few certainties

The only available dating is external: CastAlbums catalogs the recording under 1972. The label and the sleeve print no date, so the exact year stays open until the vinyl and its matrices can be examined. [2]

Nothing else about "The London Ensemble" appears in the sources consulted: no other records under that name and no list of participants.

The sleeve is a photograph of the Cambridge Theatre marquee in London advertising the show. My copy comes from the same lot bought in Germany. The date and the origin remain pending examination of its labels and matrices. [1]
