The original Australian production opened at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney on May 4, 1972, produced by Harry M. Miller and directed by Jim Sharman. This live recording comes from a December 1973 performance at that same theatre, with Trevor White (Jesus), Jon English (Judas), Marcia Hines (Mary Magdalene), Tony Rose (Pilate), Peter North (Caiaphas), Stevie Wright (Simon Zealotes), John Paul Young (Annas) and Reg Livermore (Herod).
The recording was not released at the time: according to the Aztec Music label, no record of the live show had ever been officially released, and it only saw the light on May 4, 2018, as a double CD (AVSCD083). According to the JCS Zone page, which quotes the liner notes of that CD, it was recorded by Peter Chambers, who also restored it for the release. The 1972-73 Australian cast LP it is sometimes confused with was something else: a studio-recorded selection.
I hold this recording in WAV and MP3; as with every digital version, I do not identify it with a specific pressing, nor can I confirm that my audio is the same as the 2018 CD.
