The Mexican production opened in 1975 at the Teatro Ferrocarrilero in Mexico City, the first time the work was performed in Spanish in Latin America. It was produced by Julissa, who also sang Mary Magdalene and adapted the lyrics with musical director Marcos Lizama (she signed the translation as J. I. de Llano). Stage direction was by Charles Gray.
The double LP of the original cast came out that same year, 1975, on the Orfeón label (JM-150), in its Joyas Musicales series. The credits on the back cover of my copy attribute the production to Marcos Lizama and Alfonso González Biestro (JCS Zone transcribes «Alfredo») and also credit «Producción: Porfirio Reyna» and the publishing company EMLASA, as do the record labels. The recording, with the band Zig-Zag, was made at the Teatro de La Capilla in Coyoacán and in San Jerónimo, with technical assistance from Mara InternationalMara International.
The main cast: Enrique del Olmo (Jesus), Jorge Abraham (Judas), Julissa (Mary Magdalene), Luis Torner (Pilate), Manuel Gurría (Herod), Héctor Ortíz (Simon Zealotes), Luis de León (Caiaphas), Roberto Nieto (Annas) and Homero Wimer (Peter; the back cover of my copy prints «Horacio Wimer»). In 1995 Orfeón reissued the recording as a double CD (JCD-089). The Orfeón double LP has been in my collection since October 2026; I also keep the recording in MP3 and, as with every digital version, I do not identify it with a specific pressing.
